You can also send an "index" to the listserv to get an index of back issues and other files available for retrieval. As there is no mention how to use the new smtp features I am still interested how to get through to kew.com to download the docs... hm... perhaps I should try the listserver (if uucp to kew.com still works!?)? Read the changes summary carefully in the full manual. Much of it is documented in there. Also check the index, as we added numerous references to SMTP in various parts of the manual and indexed them. -- Internet: ahd@kew.com Voice: 781-279-9812 Avoid overly pretentious job titles such as "Lord of the Realm, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India" or "Director of Corporate Planning." - The Official MBA Handbook ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Jan 1998 17:38:17 +1300 From: Stephen Worthington Subject: Delivery beeps not working in 1.12u To: uupc-info@kew.com I have just installed the 1.12u in place of my previous 1.12s version, and I have noticed that the beeps specified in the passwd file for notification of local delivery are not working. The the beep code has not changed in several releases. It does not work under DOS with the default compiler we build with, you can try the upc12ub?.zip files for the Borland C++ built version. It should work under OS/2 16 and 32 bit. -- Internet: ahd@kew.com Voice: 781-279-9812 Avoid overly pretentious job titles such as "Lord of the Realm, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India" or "Director of Corporate Planning." - The Official MBA Handbook ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Jan 1998 12:58:22 +1300 From: Stephen Worthington Subject: Delivery beeps not working in UUPC/extended 1.12u To: uupc-info@kew.com ** Reply to note from Drew Derbyshire Sun, 25 Jan 1998 13:07:49 -0500 > > Stephen Worthington wrote: > > I have just installed the 1.12u in place of my previous 1.12s version, > > and I have noticed that the beeps specified in the passwd file for > > notification of local delivery are not working. The delivery beeps definitely do not work under OS/2 32-bit (rmail.exe, uuxqt.exe), or DOS with either compiler under OS/2 DOS box or real Win3.1 DOS box (rmail.exe only tested). Or at least not with my configuration files, which initially were unchanged from my working 1.12r setup when I first noticed the loss of delivery beeps. To: uupc-info@kew.com (UUPC Mailing List) Hi, some time ago Drew told us 1.12u should be available for download. I tried it but there was no connection to kew.com. Then Drew talked about problems of the internet connection because their provider changed ip-addresses, computers or something else. Today I tried again to reach ftp.kew.com or www.kew.com (which really both are kendra.ne.mediaone.net) to no avail. I get through to mediaone.net but there seems to be no way to kew.com. To: uupc-info@kew.com Hello UUPC-Info :) Running: UUPC/Extended 12u (32-bit version) Connection: via TCP/IP I am setting up a Waffle BBS (Tom Dell's newsreader/BBS program), and since neither Waffle's UUCICO nor any other UUCICO except UUPC's UUCICO works over TCP/IP connection, I am using UUPC to receive e-mail/news via *gasp* an AOL account. (all of the free UUCP feeds that were around a few years back have all vanished, and I have found only one that takes advantage of the UUCP port 540 implimentation. Anyhow, since UUPC is not a public-access able software, and Waffle is, I would like to be able to receive and send everything via UUPC/Extended, but have Waffle handle the batches that are received. I'm also contacting the folks @ comp.bbs.waffle (and I'm hoping that the same folks I knew around there a few years back are still around)... So far, I've been able to hook into the V-mail extensions, which do help to some degree... but I'm still hoping that this is something somebody else has already successfully done and can point me in the right direction. -- -Kenneth kudut@mystics.bungi.com orthodoxy@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Jan 1998 13:24:07 -0500 From: Drew Derbyshire Subject: UUPC/extended 1.12u, ready for prime time? This server is now on-line and available, you can reach it at ftpmail@kew.com. Send it a HELP command to get started with it. Report all problems with it to me. Please note: While an ftpmail server can be configured to handle file transfers from any user on any FTP server on the net, the ftpmail@kew.com server will ONLY handle anonymous requests for ftp.kew.com. We will also be moving from listserv to majordomo to handle the mailing lists, which will provide increased security, improved functionality, faster response time while giving us lower operating costs. This should be on-line in the next week or so, a second announcement will sent when it is available. -ahd- -- Drew Derbyshire Internet: ahd@kew.com Kendra Electronic Wonderworks Telephone: 781-279-9812 May the Farce be with you. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Jan 1998 22:10:54 -0500 From: Drew Derbyshire Subject: uusmtpd To: hajo@Zierke.com, UUPC-Info Mailing List Hans-Joachim Zierke wrote: > Drew Derbyshire schrieb am 25. 01. 98: > > >You need a 32 bit windows environment. > > Ahhhhhrgl........ The basic IP supplied with Windows 95 (just install MS TCP/IP when you add the network card) will work, but it is NOT supported under Windows 3.1. (We didn't build a 16 bit version because of buffer management issues.)
