You don't say WHY you only have 120K available. For one person it's not worth the effort, for many people you would (alas) upset Snuffles. If it's disk space you are after, try using the /exepack option with 1.12o or 1.12p verions compiled with MS-C. For memory usage, you can cut the memory used by reducing the max packet size MAXPACK in commlib.h to 512 or even 256 for slow modems. My real response is, don't bother. You can delete the 'f' procotol module just by deleting the references to it in the procotol table (see how the 't' and 'e' protocols are conditionally included), and also drop the FOSSIL and INT14 support. However the security code is referenced everywhere. However, if you did hack this you would cripple the function, which violates the letter of our license agreement, and more importantly encourage distribution of an obsolete version, which we STRONGLY object to (and will prohibit in 1.12p license agreement). To do this software cheaply we HAVE to be able to tell people to upgrade when they have a problems, and I'm STILL trying to get people off 1.12q. Hence not wanting a bastard copy floating around. -ahd- -- Drew Derbyshire UUPC/extended e-mail: software@kew.com Telephone: 617-641-3452 "It's nice to be missed." - The Grey-eyed Elf ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Nov 1995 08:03:05 -0500 From: XHelp@kew.com Subject: Files out of date To: UUPC/Extended mailing list On Thu, 2 Nov 1995 20:45:47 -0500, "Rick Jenkins" wrote: > You may want to update your files to include the new telephone number. > I just downloaded "index" and it still shows the old one How silly of us, since we've been slaving over copies of the new manual with the corrected address and phone numbers. What system would you send to to get to the Internet from your mail server. So, I did. I'm now on the list, I've bought the two O'Reilly books ("Managing ..." and "Using ...") and read much of the UUPC docs and am going through the digests. But, before I take the next step, I would appreciate some feedback/sanity checking on what I intend to do ... I might be using the wrong tools. Of greatest interest are the limits on this product. My goal: ** Build a dedicated DOS based system (if possible) that picks up and delivers Internet mail on a regular basis. This PC will eventually sit on a network where other PCs will do various things with the mail messages. ** Eventually, there might be one PC dedicated to inbound messages and one to outbound messages and other agents doing work on the actual messages. ** For one domain name, let's say "domain.com", I will have a program that dynamically creates and deletes user names. For example, user1@domain.com, user2@domain.com ... There may be hundreds, or thousands of these "users". Although they won't be "real" users. An automated system will process msgs that come through, however we need to have different user names. ** If there is a limitation on how many user names there can be, I could go with hundreds, or thousands of aliases. Example: Mail addressed to user1@domain.com goes to "COMMON" mailbox. Mail addressed to user2@domain.com does the same. etc. However, somewhere in the header, I need to be able to identify which alias was used so I can process the inbound message appropriately. ?? I think those are the main things I need to worry about. Any thoughts? Is UUPC an appropriate tool for this? ?? Has anyone done anything like this that they'd like to share their experiences? ?? Is there anyone in the Portland, OR who is a UUPC/UUCP guru (or even just a student of the technology) and who wouldn't mind conversing with me, and maybe establishing a test hookup? ?? I just did an initial creation of mail, using the MAIL.EXE program. It appears that the mail file that's created is fairly easy to break down and if I want to create my own automated outbound messages, it shouldn't be difficult. Is this a correct evaluation? Thank you all for any input/feedback. It will be much appreciated. You need to dedicate a port to it for it to answer straight modem calls. You can run UUPC/extended over TCP/IP, in which you can have the physical connection be RAS-PPP port. This adds another layer of passwords (big deal), but doesn't allow DOS users to dial in. -ahd- -- Drew Derbyshire UUPC/extended e-mail: software@kew.com Telephone: 617-641-3452 "and i been riding on a ghost train where the cars they scream and slam and i don't know where i'll be tonight but i'd always tell you where i am . . ." - Mark Knopfler ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Nov 1995 07:46:43 -0500 From: XHelp@kew.com Subject: UUPC sequence numbering To: UUPC/Extended mailing list On Fri, 29 Sep 1995 11:49:10 -0400, "Dina M.
