The best way I've found to keep track of UUCP access providers (and Internet Access Providers) is to use the web. I have a list of URLs (at work where I have web access) that contain lists of providers. Everytime I want to find providers for a particular town I go to the web and search the lists again (since the set of providers has probably changed since the last month). The entries in the WWW lists speecify information about access points and protocols supported, but you still have to call the providers as the list information is often inaccurate (especially on UUCP support) and regularly varies between lists. It's unfortunate that there is no easy way for those on the net -- those who need it the most -- to get this information. The reason that I go to those lists so often is I've done a large number of searches for friends trying to find access. B.J. -- B.J. I still have problems configuring rnews. My situation: I am running a windows NT system with NNS 2.06 as NNTP-Server. I use UUPC to connect to my provider and then i need the pure Newsbatches so that NNS can access them. Right now, i am only able to do this under DOS. When i call uuxqt under DOS, Mails are delivered fine, but rnews (DOS) gives me the following message: run-time error R6000 - stack overflow uuxqt: executing "rnews" for user admin at inruhr rnews: UUPC/extended 1.12k (DOS ..... This message appears serveral times during an uuxqt (one time per newsbatch?) and after that, i have files in /tmp in the format of "***.z". That is what i need to provide to NNS. But when i try to start uuxqt under NT (of course i use the NT-Binaries), Mails are still delivered fine, but rnews always crashes and all news-files are deleted. ("An application error has occured..." i'll append the log) Ah.. before i'll forget, "rnews -?" works fine, without error ! So, what causes the DOS "error" ? ( i like the *.z result of this error;-) ) How can i get uuxqt working under NT ? Try increasing your BUFFERS= in your config.sys file if it's low and using smartdrive in its write buffering mode and see if that makes a difference to your average transfer speeds. >>> Dan ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Aug 1995 18:03:15 -0400 From: uupcinfo@kew.com Subject: UUPC via TCP To: UUPC/Extended mailing list On Wed, 9 Aug 95 10:15:37 +0200, Kristensen.L.Bjorn@cdc.com wrote: > Is there anyone who has tried to connect UUPC via TCP/IP > > I have tried using the modem file for TCP included in UUPC 1.12k > > > When I try I get the error messages > > ChooseCommunications: Invalid suite name TCP/IP > Could not connect to remote system > > If I try to change the suite to for example INT14 > I get the error messages > > callup XXXXXX via TCP at 19200 on Wed aug > ...................................... > Communications port must be format COMx, was network You're running a UUCICO which doesn't support it, which implies you are running DOS or 16 bit OS/2 versions. Since Exchange is supposed to be compatible with MSMail this gateway may very well do what you're looking for. The name of the gateway is IanGate, and you can contact the author (coincidentally named Ian ) at 75041.2561@Compuserve.Com. -Bruce ------------------------------ End of UUPC-Info-Request Digest ******************************
