I have looked at the queue files before they leave the remote host and there seems to be something valid there. SNEWS is queueing the news uncompressed and unbatched. Does this matter? I notice the SNEWS 1.91 has trouble receiving news that is unbatched and uncompressed. The host log that I have shown is not running SNEWS. I have set up another site using UUPC1.12/n to feed my existing configuation with a compressed news feed and it works fine..... I am not sure how to work around this problem since SNEWS does a quick and dirty post by generating X and C files directly and injecting them into the queue with the UUCP program. rather than using rnews or inews.
