To: UUPC/Extended mailing list Hi there Maybe this is a stupid question, but I would never know if I don't ask it: Is there any way to make certain login name shell to dos and run a certain program??? I have a remote mail server running UUPC/Extended 1.12k which I would like to set up so I can call and, besides transferring mail in the usual way, be able to run PC Anywhere to do remote maintenance, then logoff and leave the server in its normal (UUPC answering) condition. Is this possible???. What I had in mind is setting up an account name like "pcanywhere" (very clever :-) that would shell to dos and run the program. Maybe this kind of "feature" would be added to a next version??, or is there a way to do this with 1.12? --- Fernando Cassia flist@apinep.uba.edu.ar ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Jun 1995 19:18:57 -0100 From: stefan@donald.ruhr.de Subject: rnews hangs under NT To: UUPC/Extended mailing list Hi ! Al you need to do is remove the dial-up string- parts from the script(s) in your SYSTEMS and replace them with strings needed to logon as if you're directly connected to a terminal- port on the host (as in fact you are). You must also change your SYSTEMS file entry's to use a DIRECT modem file. From my SYSTEMS file: # SYSTEMS host_system Any DIRECT 9600 "" g "" "" ogin:--ogin:--ogin: uu_login_name_at_host word:--word: uu_login_pasword replacing host_system, uu_login_name_at_host and uu_login_password with the host, login and password you're already using. (depending on the type of system you're connecting to, the login prompt "ogin:" may be something else, such as Username. But you should have that already in your current SYSTEMS file) From my DIRECT.MDM file: Description=Direct connected over leased-line AnswerTimeout=30 Connect=expected_string_for_connect Device=COM1 DialPrefix=\r DialTimeout=5 ModemTimeout=2 options=fixedspeed InSpeed=9600 replacing parameters for your situation. Especially the expected_string_for_connect. This may be nothing or "login" or "username". You may have to play with that. For testing you can run UUCICO -s host_system -x 8 (replacing host_system as appropriate) to get detailed debugging information on screen and in UUCICO.LOG Good luck, Paul van der Elst elst@rullf2.MedFac.LeidenUniv.nl (elst@pathology.MedFac.LeidenUniv.nl) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Jun 1995 04:50:59 ARG From: flist@apinep.uba.edu.ar Subject: UUPC on leased line To: UUPC/Extended mailing list We're going to replace one of our UUPC/Extended dial-up links with a leased line. I wonder how to signal the >other machine when UUPC/Extended wants to establish a mail transfer, >since there are no dialing involved. (I guess) :-/ Think of your leased line as a null-modem connection. The carrier is always on. You can get the sun's attention by sending a few returns and having your system look for "login:. You can use a regular terminal program, like kermit (works well in vt320 emulation on both sun and pcs and *free*), to test out the line. What you see when you type things, is what UUPC is going to see. Usually the unix (the sun) will monitor the serial port for any activity and fire up a login when it sees activity on the line (just as if a regular user were logging in). UUCP connections login like people do, they just run different programs (and UUCP is so much faster than I am!) The remote host was telling us that we were an unknown user. The problem turned out to be the "expect nothing" "send nothing" part of the script. The latter was of course a line termination, and that created an empty user name. Now I can feed you via tcp too :) Best Regards, Mustafa Soysal ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jun 1995 11:36:14 GMT From: winbiff@blimpy.demon.co.uk Subject: WinBiff on KEW server out of date To: UUPC/Extended mailing list Sorry to post this to the list, but ...
