I hated meditation for years (I was sitting zazen at green gulch near San Francisco)and finaly at the kagami baraki new years celebration at The Evergreen Learning Center (ki-aikido in Olympia WA) I, for once, sat without it being absolute torture. That was enough for me. since, it has been a little easier. For awhile I got really nauseated when I sat (The seniors told me it was normal) and now I usually fall asleep to escape about a half hour into the sit (The seniors told be that was also normal) I keep sitting because I want to clean out. I want to be able to hear what the universe is telling me and act without my subjective thoughts butting in or my busy mind getting carried away with itself. I trust my elders and seniors that meditation will someday give me clarity. but I feel better hating it (but continuing to sit) feeling nauseous(but continuing to sit) and admitting to myself that while I have along way to go before I can really clear my mind, I have the perserverance to stay on the path. arigato Jenn B. You are "closer" than you think. The path is not linear, it is circular. Your path spins around the source. Your "busy mind" clouds your view. Some must circle around the truth for a long time before they "clean out" enough to notice it. Some see it more quickly. The most fortunate stumble on their path and accidentally fall smack into the middle of it. The difficulty lies in dropping everything else enough to be able to see. Sit to get farther from the distractions, not closer to the source. The "source" is not what (or where) we think it is. It is right here within each of us. Drop all expectations and let it unfold into your consciousness. To become "closer to the source", you need only become more aware of its (your) true nature. You already posses it, just clean everything else away and there it is. You are the source. That realization is enough to humble anyone. Kris PS - Know nothing - knowing makes it harder to learn. Try nothing - trying makes it harder to do. Believe nothing - beliefs makes it harder to experience. Just be. In the book The Way to Freedom the Dalai Lama states " that in the beginning it is better to do shorter sessions, because if your session is very long there is a danger of coming under the influence of either mental sinking or excitement, your meditation will not be as effective as it should be. It is also important to have short sessions at the beginning so that when you do the meditations you will take pleasure in them. otherwise, if you do a long session and do not enjoy it, there is a danger of becomming discouraged." Kiatsuho is an application of Ki principles that has tremendous benefit for both the recipient and practitioner. Simcox Sensei referred to the Kiatsuho school in Oregon, and I would like to explain the school to those of you who might not be aware of it. In 1992, under the direction of Calvin Tabata Sensei, and with Tohei Sensei's certification, the Oregon Ki Society started the first Kiatsuho school outside Japan. The schools in Japan teach clinical kiatsuho, and graduates are certified to become practitioners for the general public. At the Oregon school, the training is in personal kiatsuho. This means what is taught is how to press for general health and treatment of minor injuries or illnesses that do not necessarily require medical intervention. Graduates of the program can press themselves (self-kiatsuho is strongly emphasized), their family and close friends. The mission statement of the Oregon Kiatsuho school reads: The purpose of personal kiatsuho is to strengthen one's own living power and increase one's ability to extend ki, and to improve one's mental and physical health by coordinating mind and body, by practicing chido setsu and kiatsuho in our daily life. The program runs 28 months for full-time students, and about 12 months longer for part-time students. Classes meet twice a week year-round, with breaks in the March, August, and December of one to two weeks. General kiatsuho is taught on Sunday afternoons by Tabata Sensei, and the structured curriculum for first- and second-year students is taught in mid-week evening classes by senior instructors of the Oregon Ki Society. The first-year curriculum is general ki development (four basic principles, ki breathing, ki meditation, ki heath exercises, and oneness rhythm exercises) and how to find the lines. The second-year curriculum teaches how to press effectively, how to diagnose minor complaints, and how to know when medical intervention is required. Certificates of completion of the first year and second year curriculum are received from Ki No Kenkyukai. There is a program that follows completion of the two-year course for students who wish to become an instructor at the Oregon kiatsuho school. Applications for enrolling in the school are accepted starting September 1 for a new first-year class that begins the first part of November every year. Fees are $75 registration, $100 a month for full-time first-year students, and $70 a month for part-time first-year students. Second year fees are $110/$75. Prospective students do not have to be members of the Ki Society, or have had Ki training before. New students who are not members must initiate at the start of training. For those of you interested in learning kiatsuho, here is a chance to learn it at a high level and in great depth. Bob Jones Oregon Ki Society -----Original Message----- From: George N.
